When I first met Peter Cook I explained that my goal was to grow a profitable bookkeeping business so that my husband could retire. In response, he posed a question "If you could take what's in your head and put it on paper and if you could teach another bookkeeper to follow that process do you think you could trust somebody else with your clients?" I agreed that in theory it was possible.
Then he gave me the E-Myth Revisited by Michael E Gerber to read. Both those things changed the trajectory of my business. I love to share what I discovered in the E-Myth so I recommend that book to everyone who attends our Seven Secrets of Growing Your Bookkeeping Business Seminars, and I know many bookkeepers who have taken my advice.
Well, an amazing co-incidence happened late last year. Michael E Gerber was scheduled to give a keynote speech at a function in Canada and it just so happened that a friend of Pete’s was working at the same event. Pete asked him if he would approach Michael and show him the Pure Bookkeeping System and explain what we’ve been doing here in Australia to transform the bookkeeping industry. Michael was blown away by the system and thrilled when told that it was his book that set me on this path of growth and entrepreneurship.
What happened next was completely unexpected. We were hoping that perhaps he would give us a video testimonial but instead he recorded a video inviting us to co-author the E-Myth Bookkeeper with him!
To give a little context, he’s the most successful small business author of all time! The E-Myth Revisited has sold over 5,000,000 copies in 29 languages and the E-Myth methodology is taught in 118 universities worldwide. Here’s some more information about Michel E Gerber. It’s difficult for me to describe how I feel about this but humbled, honoured and thrilled come to mind.
Of course we said yes! In fact, we’re busy writing right now. It will be published sometime in the second half of this year … can’t wait to actually hold it in my hand. And I’m still pinching myself.
